THE COUNTRY PLAYERS

Country Players
Graham Riddy
Secretary

The Country Players were formed in November 1977 and since then we have usually presented three productions each year -  plays,  pantomimes and occasionally revues and old time musicals. We regularly compete in the BDA Drama Festival.

We currently have about thirty full members plus helpers.

Most productions are held at Wootton  Village Hall, Church Road, Wootton, Beds. Rehearsals are held here most Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8 pm.

Our past productions include "The Darling Buds of May", "Absurd Person Singular", "A Month of Sundays", "Outside Edge", "Trivial Pursuits", "'Allo 'Allo" and recently "Harvey" and Agatha Christie's "A Murder is Announced".

We have had some success with entries into The BDA Drama Festival in Haynes. In 1999 we presented "Womberang" by Sue Townsend  and  received awards for Best Actress (Rita Beeson), Supporting Actress (Margaret Ellins) and Teamwork (Adjudicator's Award).  "Womberang" was also presented at the Luton Drama Festival where it won Best Comedy and Ensemble Playing. In April 2002 we presented "Gosforth's Fête by Alan Ayckbourn and "Pity about Kitty" by Jimmie Chinn (which we also presented to our local audiences). Alan Hawkins was awarded the "Best Actor" award for his role as Gosforth.

In October 2000 we presented our version of the BT Biennial comedy by Bob Larbey "Sand Castles" with a cast of  16.

We are always striving to improve our knowledge about drama and to raise the standards of amateur stage productions.

Our patron scheme costs £25 per annum and offers free tickets for our productions and an invitation to our chargeable social events.

If you are interested in joining us in any capacity, or becoming a patron, please contact our secretary - or come and see us at one of our rehearsals.
